Asylum Procedure

Types of asylum procedures in the Republic of Moldova

Ordinary procedure

It lasts from 1 to 6 months. It may be extended for a further 3 months after informing

the applicant in writing of the extended deadline.

Fast-track procedure

It takes 15 days. Applications subject to the fast-track procedure are applications that

are abusive, manifestly unfounded, or made by a person who would pose a threat

to national security and public order.

Procedure for persons with special needs

It concernsunaccompanied minors, persons with mental disorders, victims of torture or

violence.

Applications from these categories are not subject to the accelerated procedure and are examined under the ordinary procedure.

Procedure for temporary protection

It is granted by Government Decision, on the proposal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on the basis of a report submitted by the General Inspectorate for Migration on the need for temporary protection. By Government Decision, the measures and the period for which temporary protection is granted are determined on the basis of an assessment of the given situation, taking into

account the causes of possible influxes of persons.
