The Government approved today, during its meeting, a set of important amendments regarding the temporary protection regime granted to persons displaced from Ukraine.
The proposal responds to an ongoing humanitarian and security reality that continues to affect thousands of refugees, for whom the Republic of Moldova has become a place of safety. The central element of the draft is the extension of temporary protection until 1st March 2027th, fully in line with the decision of the European Union and developments in the region.
This measure provides stability, predictability, and continuity for displaced persons who live, work, and raise their children in our country.
At the same time, the project proposes moving to an application-based extension of temporary protection starting in 2026, through the government platform, in electronic format and free of charge. This solution supports accurate and up-to-date administrative records of persons actually present on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, facilitating faster interventions and public policies better tailored to real needs.
The impact of these amendments is positive and balanced: we continue to provide protection to vulnerable persons, ensure access to education, healthcare, and employment, strengthen the state’s administrative capacity, and use public resources efficiently, while respecting human dignity.
