Today, 30 September 2025, marks the start of a new expert mission within the Twinning Project “Strengthening the capacities of the General Inspectorate for Migration to implement migration and asylum legislation in line with the EU acquis.”
The activity brings together officers of the General Inspectorate for Migration (IGM), Sophie Dagand, representative of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI).
The main objective of the activity is to assess the current reception capacities of the Republic of Moldova by identifying the available infrastructure, the human resources involved, the institutional cooperation mechanisms, and the possibilities for adapting reception conditions to the individual needs of beneficiaries.
Discussions on the first day focused on presenting the structure and responsibilities of the General Inspectorate for Migration, followed by a session delivered by experts from the Swedish Migration Agency, centered on the reception model applied in Sweden, with an emphasis on best practices and lessons learned. In addition, topics such as the location of reception centers, accommodation conditions, staff involved, professional training, access to basic services, and cooperation with other relevant actors were addressed.
In the following days, working visits and applied sessions are planned at the IGM Accommodation Centre, in order to directly analyse how reception standards are implemented, identify potential areas for improvement, and further strengthen interinstitutional cooperation.
The activity is taking place during the period 30 September – 3 October 2025, within Component 3 – Activity 3.2.2: Assessment of reception capacities, part of the initial work plan of the Twinning Project. It directly contributes to the Republic of Moldova’s process of aligning with European standards in the field of migration and asylum and forms part of the efforts undertaken within the screening agenda and the Rule of Law Roadmap, under the monitoring of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.
