On 25 April, officers of the General Inspectorate for Migration attended a workshop on issues related to asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in line with European and international human rights standards. The action is part of the objective set for 2024 in the EU-Moldova Action Plan on amending Law 270/2008 on asylum in the Republic of Moldova.
In her speech, State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Jana Costachi, praised the dialogue platform, which brought together experts, implementers and staff in an effective process of reviewing the national legislative framework and aligning it with the EU acquis. The Secretary of State also underlined the need to review the asylum system following the adoption of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum.
The event brought together representatives of state authorities in the field of migration and asylum, representatives of the Council of Europe and UNHCR, experts from the European Court of Human Rights, legal experts, human rights lawyers.
Today's workshop is an example of a partnership that we would like to see more often in the Republic of Moldova
a partnership between international organizations that are leaders in developing and monitoring protection standards for migrants
refugees and asylum seekers.
The workshop was organized in the framework of the Council of Europe Project "Strengthening the Protection of Human Rights of Refugees and Migrants in the Republic of Moldova", which aims to provide tailor-made support to the Republic of Moldova to address the needs of refugees and migrants and to build long-term resilient migration, asylum and reception systems, including from a human rights perspective.
