Gender equality means that women and men have the same rights, opportunities, and
responsibilities. Every person - regardless of gender - deserves to be treated
with respect, dignity, and without fear.
The General Inspectorate for Migration promotes gender equality and guarantees equal, non-discriminatory treatment and fair access to services for all persons, regardless of gender, citizenship, or status.
The General Inspectorate for Migration ensures:
- Access to clear and transparent information;
- Access to granting the right of residence;
- Access to a form of international protection;
- Interview conducted, upon request, by a person of the same gender;
- Equitable access to safe accommodation and humane conditions;
- Orientation towards other necessary services (medical, social, legal, etc.).
Gender-based violence is any form of abuse directed against a person due to socially
attributed differences between women and men.
Forms of violence include:
- Physical (beating, hitting, mutilation, burning, etc.);
- Psychological (intimidation, control, etc.);
- Economic (deprivation of food, money, etc.);
- Sexual (including rape, sexual harassment, forced prostitution, etc.);
- Human trafficking / Slavery;
- Online violence.
If you are a foreign national or a stateless
person in the Republic of Moldova, you have the right to:
- Protection and support from authorities and organizations;
- Confidentiality;
- The right of residence;
- Access to a safe shelter, psychological and legal counseling;
- Emergency and specialized medical assistance.

Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring Equality (Equality Council)
- Receives complaints regarding discrimination and harassment based on gender or other grounds.

- In cases of physical violence, threats, serious harassment, or abuse, you may file a criminal complaint.
- The police are obliged to hear your case, ensure immediate protection, and document the incident.
Social Assistance Department / Center for Assistance to Victims of Violence
- Provides temporary shelter, psychological counseling, and social support.
