Today, the General Inspectorate for Migration (GIM) hosted the launch of a new working session under the Twinning project “Strengthening the capacity of the General Inspectorate for Migration in the implementation of migration and asylum legislation, in line with the European Union acquis”, funded by the European Union.

The session, taking place from 21 to 24 October 2025, is dedicated to assessing the implementation mechanism for temporary protection in the Republic of Moldova, in line with the relevant EU directives establishing a common European framework for granting temporary protection in the event of a mass influx of displaced persons.

The mission is supported by experts from the Hellenic Republic who, together with specialists from the General Inspectorate for Migration, will review the national legal framework and operational procedures related to temporary protection. Particular attention will be paid to the systems for registration and documentation of beneficiaries, their integration into key sectors such as education, healthcare, and employment, as well as interinstitutional coordination and cooperation with relevant EU authorities.

The session will also explore potential transitional measures for the gradual phase-out of the temporary protection regime, with the aim of ensuring a safe, orderly, and standards-aligned process.

Through this initiative, the General Inspectorate for Migration reaffirms its commitment to enhancing international cooperation and ensuring the effective, fair, and harmonised implementation of legislation in the field of protection for displaced persons, in accordance with the values and best practices of the European Union.
