Studies in the Republic of Moldova – Useful Information for International Students

If you are a foreign student planning to study in Moldova, it is important to know the essential steps for admission and residence.

Admission to educational institutions in the Republic of Moldova is regulated by the Education Code and other legal acts, and enrollment is done with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Research.
Once you are admitted, the next step is obtaining a temporary residence permit for studies from the General Inspectorate for Migration (IGM), in accordance with Law No. 200/2010 on the regime of foreigners.
The residence permit is valid for the entire duration of your studies, whether you attend a public or private institution, as long as it is accredited.

To obtain the temporary residence right and the residence permit for study purposes, the following documents are required: a valid national passport, a long-stay visa (if applicable), a rental contract or proof of property ownership for housing, a valid medical insurance policy for the territory of the Republic of Moldova, proof of financial means of support, and a translated and legalized criminal record certificate.
If the student has legally resided in another country for at least two years, a criminal record certificate from that country is also required, along with proof of residence.

Scholarship students of the Republic of Moldova benefit from an important exemption – they are not required to present proof of financial means of support.

It is essential that students respect the purpose for which they entered the country. Any changes regarding the passport or residence address must be reported to IGM within 15 days.
Also, any loss or theft of documents must be immediately reported to the police.

Currently, over 2,700 international students are studying in Moldova, including 458 young people from other countries who were admitted in 2024.
Admission for the year 2025 started on July 21 and is also available online through the e-Admitere platform.

For additional information regarding the admission procedure and required documents, visit the “Immigration” – “Provisional Stay,,– Studies” section at: https://igm.gov.md/en/imigration/provisional-stay/studies/

Important: If you have already been admitted but have not yet arrived in Moldova, you can only obtain the residence permit after the institution completes the official procedures and you have all the necessary documents prepared.

The Republic of Moldova is waiting for you with open arms! Pack your bags and bring your dreams with you!
