On April 28, 2025, the General Inspectorate for Migration (GIM) participated as a speaker at the international conference "Protecting the Rights of Women and Girls in the Context of Migration: Standards and Promising Practices", held in Ankara, Turkey.
The event brought together over 100 professionals from the social, legal, and human rights fields from Turkey, Germany, Spain, Portugal, the Republic of Moldova, and other countries, along with representatives from the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, and UNHCR. The goal of the conference was to strengthen knowledge on the protection of women and children in migration contexts through the exchange of good practices and common solutions.
The Moldovan delegation included representatives from the GIM, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, and the Office of the People’s Advocate. On behalf of the GIM, Ms. Tatiana Ciumaș, Head of the International Cooperation and Project Management Division, presented Moldova’s practices in safeguarding the rights of displaced women and girls, including those from Ukraine, as well as the important role of civil society in protecting these vulnerable groups. Moldova’s experience in fostering cooperation between authorities and civil society was highlighted as a model of good practice. The conference was organized as part of the joint action of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Strengthening the Human Rights Protection in the Context of Migration in Turkey", in collaboration with the project "Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Refugees and Migrants in the Republic of Moldova – Phase II", where GIM is a beneficiary
