On October 07, the General Inspectorate for Migration (GIM) hosted the visit of the World Bank delegation, led by Erik Johnson, Lead Social Development Specialist in the Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank.
The World Bank representatives also had a meeting with the head of the GIM, Valentin Fiodorov, who shared his views and institutional development priorities. The head of the GIM expressed his openness for effective cooperation in order to strengthen institutional capacities, meet the minimum standards of protection of foreigners, as well as to ensure quality services provided to aliens.
For his part, Erik Johnson noted that, as a donor, he will help to smooth the implementation of the set objectives, in particular the activities outlined in the joint project. Recall that, in June 2024, the World Bank initiated a financing facility for the MIA's GIM under the Global Concessional Financing Facility (GCFF), aimed at strengthening the State's efforts in migration management.
The project will be implemented from November 2024 to November 2026. It aims to improve the policies, systems and technical skills of national and local authorities to effectively support the facilitation of socio-economic integration of Ukrainian refugees and other foreigners entering Moldova and to enhance social cohesion within host communities.
