GIM  answers: Top 5 frequently asked questions

The General Inspectorate for Migration (GIM) answers to the top 5 frequently asked questions asked by foreigners to the GIM Hotline recently. We answer regularly and provide clarity on topics of concern to GIM beneficiaries.

  1. Can we accept an application for the right of residence for work purposes from a foreigner who identifies himself/herself with an identity card?

If the foreigner is a citizen of the European Union, he/she can obtain the right and residence permit for the purpose of work on the basis of an identity card.

2. What health insurance is required when applying for a residence permit?

When applying for the right of residence, it is necessary to present a health insurance valid in the Republic of Moldova for at least 3 months.

    3. I have a temporary protection document, but I have changed my residential address. Do I need to change my temporary protection document and if so, where do I apply?

It is important to update your information in the database of the competent authorities. You must report to the GIM within 10 days with proof of your new address (e.g. rental agreement, a recent utility bill, etc.).

      4. A citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan has stayed on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for 90 days. What should he/she do next and when will he/she be able to re-enter the Republic of Moldova?

Only for citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan the period of stay on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is calculated from the date of the last entry. Other foreign citizens are subject to the general rule: 90 days within a 180-day period.

      5. How can I cross the border of the Republic of Moldova to go to the Federal Republic of Germany, if I illegally crossed the state border of the Republic of Moldova 5 months ago?

The declaration of illegal crossing of the state border should be made at the nearest state border crossing point and/or GPI Police Inspectorates.
