“Good practices on migrant integration” workshop

On 22-23 May 2024, the workshop "Good practices on migrant integration" took place. The training was organised by the General Inspectorate for Migration in partnership with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), based in Warsaw, Poland.

The aim of the workshop was to strengthen institutional capacities to comply with international commitments, as well as to ensure the rights of migrants, the relevant case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) as well as that of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), particular aspects of the New EU Pact on Migration and Asylum related to the integration of migrants.

In her opening speech, State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Jana Costachi, mentioned the importance of the cohesion of the actors' forces when talking about the integration of foreigners, both at central and local level, including civil society. ‘’Migration is about people and the need to come up with strengthened measures to support them, and the new objective on phased integration in the National Development Plan will contribute directly to this", said the State Secretary.  

The workshop was moderated by Ms Alice Szczepanikova, Migration and Freedom of Movement Advisor, ODIHR, and Ms Joanna Fomina, researcher, consultant and trainer on migration, migrant integration and human rights and democratic norms. 

Course topics included: key concepts and OSCE commitments in the field of migrant integration; institutional, legal and policy framework for migrant integration; facilitating civic, cultural and linguistic integration of migrants; access to labour market, social and health services; migrant entrepreneurship etc.

​​​​​​​ Each module was approached in detail on the basis of case studies and taking into account the experience of OSCE Member States, the approach to legislation, best practices and shortcomings in the field of Moldovan jurisprudence.

The event was attended by representatives of the General Inspectorate for Migration, the Secretariat of the Commission for the Coordination of Migration and Asylum Activities, the General Inspectorate of Police, the General Inspectorate of Border Police, etc.
