We share same borders, but there are also shared values that connect us as a community. The family is equally cherished by all ethnicities and countries around the world.

Almost 20 600 foreigners from 97 countries of the world have valid identity documents in the Republic of Moldova.

Since the beginning of 2024, about 1250 of them have obtained the right of residence for family reunification with a citizen of the Republic of Moldova or a foreigner. These families use their rights through active participation in the economic, social and cultural life of Moldovan society. In the GIM Accommodation Centre there are 7 families benefiting from international protection, raising and educating 8 children aged 1-10 years.

On International Family Day we celebrate unity, harmony and mutual support between family members. Through integration programmes we help to strengthen the values of families from all over the world, with all kinds of experiences and traditions, so together we shape the inclusive society we want to live in.

Every year on May 15, we celebrate International Day of Families. It's a day to recognise how important families are in our society. The United Nations decided on this day in 1994 to help people understand why families matter, what struggles they might have, and to encourage people to come together.
