Chisinau, February 28, 2024: The General Inspectorate for Migration announces that the draft Government Decision (GD) on granting temporary protection to displaced persons from Ukraine has been approved.

According to the new draft GD:

  • The temporary protection will be extended until March 1, 2025.
  • The identity document of the beneficiary of temporary protection of persons displaced from Ukraine who obtained this status until March 1, 2024, is to be considered automatically extended until March 1, 2025.  There is no obligation to come in person to the GIM office for this particulat purpose.
  • Persons who will be outside the Republic of Moldova for a period longer than 45 days will no longer lose their status as beneficiaries of temporary protection
  • A valid travel document is required for citizens coming directly from Ukraine. For adults, either an ordinary passport for departures abroad, a valid identity card/passport or an internal passport is required.
  • Only one exit/entry from/to Ukraine for Ukrainian adults when crossing the state border with national identity document (ID card/passport, internal passport).

The extension of the temporary protection mechanism is a sign of solidarity of the Republic of Moldova with Ukraine and its people. This decision maintains a safe legal framework and gives more time to adapt to their new difficult situation for thousands of Ukrainians who are currently displaced within our country.
